Psalm 112:4: Light arises in the darkness for the upright; He is gracious and compassionate and righteous.
The bible says: the dark places of the earth are full of the habitation of cruelty (Psalm 72:20). That shows that there are dark places of the earth, where the light of the knowledge of God is still dimly lit, if at all. But we should not lose hope. We should continue with our barrage of prayer to make sure the light of God dawns in the dark places of the earth.
The dark places are where satanic oppression is prevalent. Satanically appointed people control the instrument of information, pushing misinformation, isolation and bondage.
Light stands for freedom for empowerment, while darkness is a place of limitation; it describes the fall of man, a misplacement of priority. Introducing Jesus John said in him was life and the light was the light of men (John 1:1-5). That means light is associated with life just as darkness is associated with death.
And remember that death was introduced into the world through the disobedience of Adam (Romans 5:12-21). When he rejected God’s words (Genesis 3), he rejected his light (his life) and there was no other option but to enter darkness. Thus Adam led us all into darkness.
The first words in the bible from the mouth of God concerned light (Genesis 1:1-3). He said: “let there be light” over the darkness on the earth (light being the harbinger of God’s creative force). Apparently a disaster had happened to the earth and darkness (a mark of Satan’s operation) was the result.
Following the principle of “first mention” therefore the word of God is primarily associated with light. So if the devil wants to keep people in darkness, he knows what he has to do is shut the word of God out as much as he can.
Isaiah said: oh house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the Lord (Isaiah 2:5). That means we should allow him to guide us with his word. The promise is that we would hear a voice behind us saying: this is the way walk in it, whether we need to go to the right or the left (Isaiah 30:21). Light means direction; the primary role of the word of God is to give us direction.
Of Jesus it was said: in him was life and the life was the light of men; the light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot stand it. The answer to darkness is light. Darkness means not knowing the way out. Since light is energy, being in darkness means not having enough energy and so no real progress can be made.
Light means knowledge, knowing the right thing, learning the right things. It helps us to make the right changes, the right choices.
Isaiah when confronted with the light of the presence of God (Isaiah 6:1), repented of the wrong way he uses his mouth (He called his lips unclean), and the solution was not for him to read more books, do more penance, or go to more classes. The solution was a more intense light in the form of the coal of fire taken from the altar before the throne of God, taken by an angel, to Isaiah’s tongue. The light of the presence of God, reflective of his holiness, exposed the un-cleanliness in Isaiah and the solution was also the light of the presence. Light both exposes and cures.
The only real problem anywhere is darkness (absence of light). Because where there is darkness (when we reject light), there is nothing God can do, but light gives the platform for the operation of God. When you have the light of the word of God released in a place, you are ready for an increase in the operation of God. The light of truth gives the foundation for the works of God, since the works of God stands on truth (1Timothy 3:15).
Light and darkness are opposites. They are constantly countering each other. Since darkness does not have any effect on light but the opposite is true, the strategy of Satan is to create dark zones where darkness which is ignorance is perpetuated and handed over from generation to generation. It is to generate/concentrate dark cultures, invested with some measure of legitimacy, where ignorance of God erroneously celebrated and elevated to the status of truth. But the devil is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44).
Darkness and light are states of the heart. To keep the light of God from the heart of men, the bible says that the god of this world blinded the hearts of men (2Corinthians 4:4). That means he exerts his spiritual influence to put a cover over the heart of men so that they are convinced that light is darkness and darkness is light. It also means that the heart are desensitised to light, and do not respond to it in any way.
Also, Paul said that there is a spirit working in the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2). The devil does not want to leave things to chances to ensure we remain in the kingdom of darkness (Colossians 1:13); he takes regular measures that we are increasingly tangled in the works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11). He makes available avenues for us to become more convinced that the path of darkness is the convenient thing. He makes sure we are born in it and we get used to it. The darkness becomes our identity and it is difficult to us to move away from it, as difficult as death, therefore very humiliating on the face of it.
So to embrace the light we need to embrace humility. We must be willing to yield to the light of Jesus, humbling ourselves, acknowledging we were wrong. We have to come to him acknowledging that we need his light and see him as the light, confess him as Lord and agree to be his subject. That is why it is written: God gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).
To embrace light we must be willing to reject our previous identification with darkness; that is what is meant to be born again (John 3:1-16), to start anew, to be a new creature (2Corinthians 5:17), to be a new person.
To embrace light is to turn the back on the legacy of darkness from our past, to start learning something new, the way of light, starting as a child (Matthew 18:3). Touched by the light of Christ we become the light of the world (Matthew 18:3), and the nemesis of darkness. As we bear light in our heart and we speak it forth in our mouth we become a threat to the hold of darkness in people’s lives.
