Increase

annual-report-203761_640Leviticus 26:4: then I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (ESV)

God is committed to increase, to prosperity, the bible says that he delights in the prosperity of his servants (Psalm 35:27).

When God made man he called him into increase. He puts the blessing of increase upon him. He said: “be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:26-28)” and that order still subsists.

God has also called you increase. The church is called to increase discipleship. Jesus said we should go into all the world and made disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). That is increase via spiritual birth. When the gospel is preached and the people are believe they join the body of Christ.

The first few chapters of the bible is focused on multiplication of disciples, in the second chapter we see 120 disciples of Jesus including his mother Mary and the twelve apostles. They were in one accord praying and the Holy Spirit came down. And before the end of that day 3000 people joined their fold. The laws of spiritual increase practised there includes praying, the manifestation of the Holy Spirit and the preaching of the gospel, because after the people were attracted by the manifestation of the people all speaking in tongues, Peter took time to explain the gospel to them. So with the threefold cord of prayer, Holy Spirit manifestation and preaching, increase came to the church.

In chapters three and four we see thousands more become disciples. In that incident, it was the combination of the miraculous and the preaching. It was about a lame man who was constantly put on the gate of the temple, by using the name of Jesus, the man lame from the birth was raised up.

It was something undeniable. However the increase in spiritual impact, increase in spiritual disciples led to increase in persecution, as the work being done by the leaders of the church gained increasing attention from the religious hierarchy at the time.

God was changing things, the kingdom of God had come, but they were blinded to it, only fixated on protecting their position gives them and the privileges too. They cannot afford to allow the upstarts who were social nonentities to push them away from their place of prominence.

They have become dried woods unfruitful, they have become a dam and not flowing out, they have become empty clouds (Jude 1:12). What they had was dead religion, all motion and no real love or connection with God. All confession and no transformation. They have come into unholy alliance with the Roman government whom they fear more than God. They killed Jesus the son of God, revealing the evil in their hearts.

But Jesus is life, he is the vine always bearing fruit, and that speaks of increase (John 15:1-11). He said that if any do not produce good fruit he will be cut off as a branch.

God designed you for increase, he made the earth as the place of multiplication. He blessed man and commissioned him for increase (Genesis 1:26-28). He infused him with his power and for that purpose. He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). It is his life in us that gives us his ability, for increase for multiplication, for endless life.

Jesus described himself as the vine with us being the branches, it means in the business of fruitfulness, multiplication, bearing fruits cannot be done in our lives expect in connection with him.

Jesus said: without me, you can do nothing. There is no way to fruitfulness except though him, since he is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6).

Way of fruitfulness

There is no getting to fruitfulness without Jesus. He is fruitfulness, the definition to it. He gave his life and is reaping many sons into glory for God (Hebrews 2:10). He taught that fruitfulness is not about ourselves, letting us know that his father is the vinedresser. We bear fruit for him, and through Jesus. When that is clear in our minds, it means we have the right perspective about the one we should seek to please as we pursue fruitfulness (Galatians 1:10).

Truth

The truth is the right knowledge. Jesus is the truth, to not know him is to make all “fruitfulness” a waste of time. Truth is right alignment with the thoughts of God. You cannot be running at cross purposes with the Lord and claim to be fruitful, you will be anything else but that.

That is actually pride and God promises to resist the proud and give grace to the humble (James 4:6). Truth is based on what God said, you cannot seek to produce something different from what God has commanded you, the direction he is showing you.

Jonah wanted to do that, and he was buried in the belly of fish not seeing light, but clothed with darkness of confusion and frustration. He was commanded to preach to the people of Nineveh but he did something else, he went to Tarshish, he took a trip different from what God commanded and it was almost fatal for him.

There was a time Jeremiah said he was no longer going to deliver the message God has put in his mouth. But he later said that God’s word is like fire shut-up in his bones, and he cannot but speak (Jeremiah 20:7-11). He was not supposed to speak any other word, except what was delivered in his mouth (Jeremiah 1:1-6). He was mean to speak up when, how, and where he was commanded, what he felt about it did not matter. That was his area of fruitfulness and he should focus on it.

Life

Life emanates from God which is part of the fruitfulness arrangement. The disobedience of man in the Garden of Eden was, which means their spiritual potential shut down. What we should produce is the life of God, otherwise what we will produce will be ambition and not God’s mission. The Pharisees were said to produce disciples after their own image who became twice a candidate of hell as they are (Matthew 23:15). They had no life and therefore could only produce death, as the life is in Jesus (John 1:1-4).
